A Polestar 2 that won’t start in Chicagoland is usually a dead 12V in the cold. The Polestar 2 uses a small 12V to wake the car and run the computers. A cold overnight street park drains the 12V and the car looks completely bricked.

Why the Polestar 2 looks dead when it isn’t

The Polestar 2 has two electrical systems, like every modern EV. The high-voltage pack turns the motors. The 12V wakes the car, locks the doors, runs the contactors, and lights the dash. A cold Chicago night pulls the 12V below the threshold the Polestar 2 needs. The screen stays black. The start button does nothing.

The high-voltage pack can sit at any state of charge during that time. The DC-DC converter recharges the 12V once the car is awake, but it cannot wake a flat 12V on its own. A weekend sit in a heated garage in Naperville is fine. A weekend sit on the street in Evanston is not.

What to try before you call

Run these checks in order before you call a local operator.

  1. Look for any dashboard glow when you press the brake. A faint glow means the pack is awake. A black dash with no clicks means the 12V is dead.
  2. Try the mechanical key in the fob. The Polestar 2 hides a key blade inside the fob for entry when the 12V is flat.
  3. Listen for any relay click under the hood when you try to start. A click with no start is the 12V trying. Silence with no clicks is the same dead 12V.
  4. Look at the headlights. Dim or missing headlights are a 12V sign. The high-voltage pack drives the motors, not the low-voltage accessories.

What an on-site operator does

The independent operator we connect you with brings a portable 12V booster matched to the Polestar 2. The operator clips onto the under-hood jump points and lets the booster wake the car. If the 12V is too far gone for a jump, the operator carries a replacement and swaps it on site. The operator quotes before any work starts and bills the driver directly. Charge Pro does not set the price.

Where this hits in the metro

Polestar 2 owners in street-parking towns see this most. Evanston pre-1980 housing is 71.2 percent. Skokie is 72.0 percent. Oak Park is 78.6 percent. Most residents park on the street and have no way to keep a 12V warm through a Chicago winter.

If your Polestar 2 sits dead anywhere in Cook, DuPage, Lake, Will, Kane, or McHenry county, call (858) 925-5546. We connect you with an independent operator who can quote a 12V jump or replacement on site.
